5 SIMPLE STEPS TO BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM

As we navigate through this time of uncertainty, it is very clear that now more than ever we need to make our health and well-being a priority! Here are 5 simple steps you can take to boost your immunity to ensure you are staying healthy, building healthy habits and improving your overall well-being.

KICK START YOUR DAY WITH GRATITUDE
Believe it or not your mindset plays a very important role in the functions of your whole body. Your thoughts, emotions and beliefs can either create rest or stress in the body. Excess stress over a long period of time can compromise your immune system and ultimately result in illness. To reduce unnecessary stress in the body, start your day with gratitude. As you begin your day each morning, take a few moments to reflect and write down 5 things you are grateful for each day.

DRINK HOT WATER WITH LEMON
An easy healthy habit to incorporate into your morning or evening routine is drinking hot water with lemon and raw honey. The lemon juice is a natural cleanser and the raw honey has antibacterial properties working together to cleanse your body and boost your immunity.

VITAMIN C FOODS
Foods rich in vitamin C can improve your health and immune system by providing anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Studies have shown that incorporating vitamin C rich foods into your daily nutrition may help you reduce symptoms of respiratory infections and shorten the duration of illness like the common cold, flu and/or bronchitis. The best vitamin C rich foods to help strengthen your immune system include: Citrus fruits (orange, lemon, grapefruit), green or red bell peppers, pineapples, kiwi, mango, honey dew melon, jicama and parsley.

GO GREEN
Incorporating more greens into your daily nutrition is essential in establishing a healthy body and immune system. Nutritionally, greens are very high in calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, zinc, vitamins A,C,E and K. They are loaded with fiber, chlorophyll and many other nutrients. Kale, spinach, broccoli, arugula, bok choy, asparagus, lettuce, watercress, mustard greens, napa cabbage, collard greens, endives, bell peppers or a bag of mixed leafy greens are great options to give your body a natural vitamin boost!

SLEEP
Getting adequate and restful sleep is essential to your health and well-being as it provides rest and restoration for the mind and body. Not getting enough quality sleep can create havoc on your body and weaken your immune system. During the sleep state, this is the time our bodies are devoted to healing, the rest and recovery of internal organs, tissue repair, muscle growth, hormone regulation, stress management, metabolism regulation, memory improvement and so much more. So, if you want to wake up feeling refreshed and focused with a boost of extra energy reset your alarm clock or go to bed earlier to ensure your getting between 7 and 8 hours of quality, restful sleep a night.
